Who is Jesus?
As someone who is curious about Christian concepts or even as a new believer in Christ, sometimes it’s hard to get a straight and simple answer to a question. There are reasons for this (God and His ways are very complex), but it can be hard to know where to start and it can be overwhelming to have to read and research all kinds of things just to get a simple answer. The goal of this series of posts is to provide simple, concise answers and definitions to common questions about Christianity. These posts won’t be long or complicated, they won’t delve into all of the layers and angles that could be addressed in regards to each question; that’s not the intention. The intention is to give a clear and concise answer so that someone who is curious or new to the faith can have a starting point to work from. Think of it as Christianity 101, the very basics you need to know about foundational concepts in Christianity. We hope this will allow you to read the Bible or listen to Christian preaching and have a better understanding of what is being said. You are always welcome to email us with any specific questions you have: info@theywaysgf.com.
Who is Jesus?
Similar to the question of What is the Trinity? (Link to What is the Trinity? article), this is another question that is a bit more complicated than a couple of paragraphs can handle. But I will do my best to keep it to the basics.
Jesus is the Son of God. He was with God when the world was created.
When sin entered the world after Adam and Eve disobeyed God, God promised that he would send a Savior to rescue His fallen people. Jesus was God's promised Savior. All of the Old Testament in the Bible speaks of His future coming.
And then, as God promised, at the right time, Jesus took on a physical body when He was born of the Virgin Mary on Earth. So He is God and He is Man at the same time.
When Jesus lived on the Earth, He was the only person to ever live sinlessly (Link to What is Sin/Sinners? article). Because He lived perfectly, He was able to be the perfect sacrifice God required for the sins of Man. Because of Jesus' perfect life and death, Man (you and I) can be reconciled in our relationship with God.
Three days after He died, Jesus rose from the dead, proving that He had defeated death and Satan (Link to Who is Satan/demons? article).
Jesus is like a bridge that connects us (sinners) with the Holy God (Link to What is Holiness article). He is at the center of the Gospel story (Link to What is the Gospel? article). He is the reason can rejoice and have hope.
