What does it look like when two kings sit down to host a banquet? In Mark 6, we are drawn into a striking contrast that cuts to the heart of what true kingship means. On one side stands Herod, a ruler consumed by pride, self-indulgence, and the hunger for power, whose banquet ends in the death of a prophet. On the other side stands Jesus, whose compassion drives him up a hillside to feed thousands with nothing more than five loaves and two fish. The feeding of the 5,000 is far more than a miracle of multiplication. It is a declaration of identity. Jesus is the shepherd Israel had been waiting for, the one Isaiah saw coming when he wrote of a great light breaking into the land of deep darkness. As we sit with this passage, we are invited to ask ourselves a searching question: whose banquet are we building our lives around? The king who demands we earn our place at the table, or the king whose invitation reaches every crack and corner of society, from the powerful to the forgotten, from the clean to the unclean? This message calls us to honest reflection about how our words and actions transmit either life or death to the people around us every single day.  Read More
