More Than Meets the Eye
by Sermon Recap on October 26th, 2026
There is far more happening in the story of the Transfiguration than a single miraculous moment on a mountaintop. When we slow down and look carefully at Mark 9, we begin to see layers of meaning that stretch across the entire sweep of Scripture. Jesus stands on that high mountain and something extraordinary happens -- the veil of his humanity pulls back just enough for the radiance of his divine glory to shine through. His clothes become intensely, brilliantly white, not because light is reflecting off of him the way it reflected off of Moses coming down from Sinai, but because the light is coming from within him. He is the source. Moses and Elijah appear alongside him, representing the law and the prophets, the entire Old Testament witness to God's redemptive plan -- and they are subservient to him. Then the Father speaks from the cloud and says simply, listen to him. This is the heart of the passage and the heart of our faith. Everything in the Old Testament was pointing forward to this moment, to this person. And the glory we glimpse here is not the full picture. It is a foretaste of the resurrection glory and the return glory still to come. We are invited to see Jesus not just as a great teacher or a miracle worker, but as the eternal Son of God whose kingdom has no end. There is so much more to him than meets the eye, and that realization should change the way we approach him, trust him, and follow him every single day. Read More
Clear Sight for Blind Eyes
by Sermon Recap on October 12th, 2026
What does it mean to truly see? In this powerful exploration of Mark 8, we are confronted with one of the most layered and artfully constructed passages in the Gospels. At its heart is a two-stage healing of a blind man, a miracle unlike any other recorded in Scripture, where sight is restored not all at once but gradually. The man first sees people who look like trees walking, and only after a second touch does everything come into sharp focus. This is not a story about incomplete power. It is a living parable about the journey from spiritual confusion to clarity. We are invited to see ourselves in the disciples, who had witnessed feeding thousands, calming storms, and casting out demons, yet still struggled to understand who Jesus truly was. The central lesson is both humbling and hopeful: encountering Jesus is not the same as understanding Him. Seeing His works is not the same as perceiving their meaning. True spiritual sight is not something we generate on our own. It is something He gives us. And the great encouragement here is that Jesus does not abandon those who are still learning to see. He stays with them, leads them, and brings them to the moment of clarity they need. Read More
